dies
Dies are available in a variety of styles. Each die has features especially designed to overcome specific threading applications. The descriptions below will assist the die user in making a selection of the dies needed for their specific threading application.

All our High Speed Steel Round Adjustable Dies are designed for cutting new external threads.

ROUND ADJUSTABLE DIES
General Purpose page 226
High Speed Steel Round Adjustable Dies, also known as Button Dies, are designed for cutting external screw threads, either by hand, using a die stock or by machine, using a floating die holder. They also can be used to cut smaller or larger, than factory setting, by turning the adjusting screw in or out. Dies are manufactured with a 2-3 thread chamfer on front face and a 1-1½ thread chamfer on the rear.
Metric    page 228
High Speed Steel Metric Round Adjustable Dies, also known as Metric Button Dies, are designed for cutting external screw metric threads, either by hand, using a die stock or by machine, using a floating die holder. They also can be used to cut smaller or larger, than factory setting, by turning the adjusting screw in or out.
Special Thread page 230
High Speed Steel Special Thread Round Adjustable Dies are designed for threading applications where standard, coarse, fine or extra-fine threads are not applicable or where design considerations require non-standard pitches. They can also be used to cut smaller or larger than factory settings by turning the adjusting screw in or out.

ROUND SOLID DIES
Automatic Thread Dies - Cobalt page 231C
Cobalt Automatic Thread Dies are designed for automatic thread cutting machines and lathes with 2 holding holes. Their solid cobalt construction design guarantees a precise repetitive accuracy and longer tool life than regular HSS dies.
Our Threading Dies are designed for cutting new threads, unlike "rethreading" dies, which are designed only for repairing existing threads.

HEXAGON THREADING DIES
Hex Nut Diameter page 239
High Speed Steel Hexagon (Hex Nut Diameter) Threading Dies are designed for tough cutting applications of all types of external threads. They are used for threading rods, bolts, and studs. All sizes are manufactured to be the same size as a Hex Nut of equal thread size. ICS Hex Threading Dies have polished gold face and black surface treated threads for maximum performance.
All Rethreading Dies are designed to repair jammed or damaged threads. This is also known as "chasing" threads. They are NOT designed for cutting new threads.

HEXAGON RETHREADING DIES
CARBON STEEL
Automotive page 239B
